Hi Everyone,
I have posted new events for the months of February, March and April on our website transitionscs.weebly.com
At our February meeting, we will be watching In Transition 1.0, which is an introduction to the Transition Movement. Even if you have already seen this movie, it would be great if you could come and help explain the Transition movement to our newcomers. The next day, Friday, we will be meeting at Cafe Far Bella for coffee from 5pm-7pm. We will be hosting a coffee hour the day after our monthly meeting when scheduling permits in order to be more accessible to those unable to attend the Thursday meetings and for those who would like to have deeper discussions and build community within our group.
At our March meeting, we will be watching In Transition 2.0, which is a sequel to In Transition 2.0 and shares the experiences of transition initiatives from around the world. The next day, Friday, we will have a coffee hour from 5pm-7pm at Cafe Far Bella.
At our April meeting we will be watching Earth Days in preparation for Earth Day in April. The next day, Friday, we will have a coffee hour from 5pm-7pm at Cafe Far Bella.
Please help me promote these events and encourage your friends and neighbors to attend.
I am still in the process of reading Bowling Alone: America's Declining Social Capital and I have been amazed the differences it makes statistically in neighborhoods where community bonds are strong. People trust one another more, students stay in school, people trust one another, the crime rate is lower and people feel more relaxed. The list of benefits from having strong community ties is quite long. I encourage you to become more involved with your community during this upcoming year.
The most important goal of the Transition Movement is to build community, because without community there can be no community resilience. No individual will be able to make it through financial crises, fossil fuel delpetion and climate chaos alone. We deeply need one another. So turn off the TV, give facebook and twitter a break and get to know your neighbors if you have not, turn off the TV and try to get out to more community meetings this year. We can't build community without you.
