On Saturday March 2nd, 2013 I went to a meeting of the Michigan Time Bank Alliance which was held at Peace Lutheran Church in Southfield, followed by a community garden planning meeting in Huntington Woods with Greg Alexander, Sandy Quackenbush and Nancy Moran of Transition Saint Clair Shores. At the time banking meeting, we discussed the benefits that a time bank offers a community in terms of building trust and reciprocity between members of the community, helping people to get to know one another better and resulting in a better quality of life for all involved. Ferndale, Royal Oak, Lathrup village, Southwest Detroit, and Huntington Woods all have time banks at this point and we hope that Saint Clair Shores can soon be added to the list.
Following the meeting of the Michigan Time Bank Alliance, we also attended a planning meeting for the Huntington Woods Community Garden. The meeting was very informative and I took quite a few notes regarding things to consider and questions to ask when starting up a community garden. We will be having our own community garden planning meeting for our Saint Clair Shores Community Garden on Thursday March 7th, 2013.
Thanks to Greg, Sandy and Nancy for coming along with me! We learned a lot and enjoyed meeting many new people on Saturday.
